Fans of muddy trails in the state of Ohio dont have far to search. The Buckeye State is home to some of the muddiest trails in the Midwest, which provide good locations for 4x4 enthusiasts to test their wheels. These trails, located in rural areas throughout Ohio, are favored by owners of Jeeps, trucks and a myriad of off road vehicles from all over the state.
Happy Hollow Dirt Park
Located in Hillsboro, Ohio, Happy Hollow Dirt Park is a 100-acre tract of land that includes a circle track, miles of hilly and heavily wooded trails and a drag strip. Happy Hollow, although on private property, is open to the public and contains amenities such as bathrooms, showering facilities, an on-site store and camping facilities. The trail is rugged in many areas but levels out to more gently rolling hills in others. As of October 2010, the cost to ride at Happy Hollow Trail averaged $10, which included a full day of unlimited riding, although prices are subject to change. Forbidden Zone Park
Forbidden Zone Park, also known to locals as Wellsville, the Pitts and Yellow Creek, is in Hammondsville, Ohio, just 20 minutes outside of Steubenville. Forbidden Zone is open to all sorts of all-terrain vehicles including Jeeps, four-wheelers, trucks and motorcycles and operates 365 days a year. The trail, which varies from hilly to smooth, offers areas that are suitable for newcomers to the sport as well as challenging trails for more advanced riders. In addition, Forbidden Park can be rented out for events such as birthday and private parties. As of October 2010, the cost to ride at Forbidden Zone averaged $10 per day or $20 per weekend per person. Camping facilities are also available for an additional charge. Hanging Rock Trail
Hanging Rock, an off-road vehicle trail in Pedro, Ohio, is open to riders 16 and over and requires that all vehicles be registered with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles in order to ride. The trail, which varies in terrain from paved to wooded and hilly, is suitable for motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles less than 50 inches in width. All riders at Hanging Rock are required to hold a valid drivers license to drive. Hiking, camping and fishing are also available on-site. As of October 2010, there was no cost to ride.
