The front suspension on a Chrysler 300 uses a MacPherson strut design, as opposed to the rear suspension, which uses separate shock absorbers and coils. These struts can wear down from age or a breakdown in the seals internally. In this event, they will need to be removed and replaced. The first step in that process is to remove the defective struts from the front suspension.
Step 1
Put on the parking brake. Lift the front of the Chrysler 300 with the jack, and put jack stands underneath the vehicle. Take off the wheels with the tire iron.
Step 2
Pop the hood. Unbolt the top of the strut from the strut tower with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Unbolt the sway bar connection to the strut, using an open-end wrench, and the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.
Step 3
Unbolt the strut from the lower control arm using an open-end wrench and the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Remove the wheel speed sensor clip on the brake tube bracket by hand.
Step 4
Loosen the nut connecting the steering knuckle to the upper control arm with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, but keep it in place. Separate the upper control arm from the steering knuckle with the ball joint separator tool and the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, and remove the ball joint nut.
Lean the steering knuckle away from the suspension, and pull the strut out of the front suspension.
