The Dodge Ram Hemi is a full-size, heavy-duty pickup truck, powered by a 5.7L (345 cu-inch) V-8 engine. The small-block V-8 is able to produce 390 horsepower and 407 pound-feet of torque, endowing it with abundant hauling capability. The official towing figure is rated in excess of 10,000 pounds while still providing ample space for four adults. Due to the motors high degree of tunability and responsiveness to modifications, enthusiasts have been able to modify the Ram Hemi with a series of bolt-on upgrades in an effort to achieve even more performance.
Step 1
Install a new high-flow, washable air filter in place of the restrictive factory filter. This will increase air flow to the motor at all RPMs and improve both horsepower and torque throughout the power band.
Step 2
Replace the stock exhaust with a larger diameter unit and less restrictive muffler to reduce engine back pressure. This allows the Hemi to operate more efficiently by expelling waste gasses faster; it also makes a noticeable improvement in torque production at low RPMs and improves overall response and drivabilty.
Add a turbo kit for the ultimate performance upgrade. Even a low-pressure unit will provide huge power gains while maintaining a high degree of reliability. This modification will require high octane fuel to prevent detonation and generate maximum power.
