Chevrolet first introduced the 327 small-block engine in 1962. Based on the smaller 283 engine, the 327 was manufactured in a variety of configurations to produce different power ratings. Regardless of the configuration, the 327s torque specifications are identical. The following factory torque specifications assume that the fasteners are clean and their threads are lightly lubricated, as dry or dirty threads will result in an inaccurate torque reading.
Spark Plugs
Tighten each of the eight spark plugs to 23 ft-lbs of torque.
Cylinder Head Bolts
All cylinder head bolts must be tightened to 65 ft-lbs of torque.
Intake Manifold Bolts
Tighten each intake manifold bolt to 30 ft-lbs of torque.
Exhaust Manifold Bolts
Tighten each exhaust manifold bolt to 20 ft-lbs of torque.
Rocker Arm Cover Bolts
Tighten all rocker arm cover bolts to 55 in-lbs of torque.
Connecting Rod Cap Nuts
Both connection rod cap nuts on each of the eight connecting rods must be tightened to 35 ft-lbs of torque.
Main Bearing Cap Bolts
Both main bearing cap bolts on each of the four caps must be tightened to 80 ft-lbs of torque.
Flywheel Bolts
Tighten each flywheel bolt to 60 ft-lbs of torque.
Vibration Dampener
Tighten the single vibration dampener bolt to 60 ft-lbs of torque.
