The Pontiac Montana is a full-size mini van with a V-6 engine. The battery is located inside the engine compartment on the drivers side. On newer models the battery has a plastic cover concealing the battery and protecting it from debris. The battery is secured to the frame of the engine compartment by a plastic mount, with the top of the battery secured by a metal bolt connected to the engine compartment. Removing the battery is a simple job, but its heavy, so be careful when lifting it.
Step 1
Open the Montanas hood. Remove the positive and negative cables from the battery by using the screwdriver to loosen the clamps. On some models the battery will have two or four screws securing a plastic cover over the battery.
Step 2
Loosen the nut on the top of the plastic mount on the battery using the ratchet. You need a full ratchet set because the nut size will vary from model to model. Pull the mount off the battery.
Remove the nuts from the lower right and left side of the battery using the ratchet set. Pull the battery out of the engine compartment.
