The Toyota 22RE was the successor of the 22R, one of the most popular and longest running engines in Toyotas history. The 22RW was available in several different configurations and used in vehicles ranging from half-ton pickups to sport utility vehicles.
History
The Toyota 22RE was first introduced in 1982. It was essentially a fuel-injected version of Toyotas 22R four-cylinder engine. In its original incarnation in 1982, it ran at 105 horsepower at 4,800 rpm. In 1985, the engine was upgraded slightly and a few other minor upgrades were made over the following 10 years.
Specifications: 1985 to 1988
From 1985 through 1988, the 22RE was manufactured with a maximum of 105 horsepower at 4,800 RPM. It achieved a maximum torque of 137 at 2,800 RPM. It had a displacement of 2,366 cc. The compression of the engine was 9.3 to 1, with a bore of 92 mm and a stroke of 89 mm.
Specifications: 1989 to 1995
From 1989 through 1995, Toyota made the engine slightly more powerful. Maximum horsepower was increased to 112 at 4,600 rpm. Maximum torque was raised to 142 at 3,400 rpm. Displacement remained at 2,366 cc, as did compression at 9.3 to 1, bore at 92 mm and stroke at 89 mm.
