The Ford Focus used a 2.3-liter engine block from 2004 through 2009. The block was also used in similar car models like the Ford Escort and Ford Fusion. As of 2010, the Ford Focus has reverted to a 2.0L V-4 engine.

The 2.3-liter V-4 engine has an aluminum block and head with a composite intake manifold and a cast iron exhaust manifold. The engine has a cast iron crankshaft, aluminum heads and cracked powdered metal connecting rods. The valve intake diameter is 35 mm and exhaust diameter is 30 mm. Engine bore is 3.4 x 3.7 in. and the stroke is 87.5 x 94.0 mm. Engine displacement is 138 cubic inches with a compression ratio of 9.7:1. The engine is capable of 145 horsepower and 149 foot-pounds of torque.
Fuel Specs
The 2.3-liter Focus gets an estimated 25 miles per gallon during city driving and 33 miles per gallon on the highway. The tank capacity is 14 gallons with an estimated fuel expectancy of 400 miles. The recommended fuel is unleaded regular. The engine oil capacity is 4.5 quarts of 5W-20 motor oil. The engine and vehicle meet California and the United States emission regulations and controls emission by utilizing a closed loop system with catalyst.
Electronics
The 2.3-liter Focus engine uses a pulse code modulation, PCM, engine control system to relay signals to the engine and throughout the car. The engine uses a sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection system to maximize fuel efficiency. The engine has a coil and plug ignition system for easy starting and cranking. The throttle body is 55 mm and is electronically powered and water cooled.
