Contenu
The shift stick console on Hyundai Sonata vehicles is designed to be easily accessible. While it does not fit this description completely well, it is quite accessible compared to the consoles in some other vehicles. Whether youre replacing the console assembly or simply opening the console to access the shifter, removing the console requires a few basic tools and anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes of time.
Step 1
Remove the plastic radio cover from the center console by removing the 4 Phillips screws securing it. Two of these are covered with plastic clips.
Step 2
Remove the shifter knob by twisting it counterclockwise. If the knob is still the factory original, it will be secured with lock-tite. It may take some force to get the shifter to turn.
Step 3
Remove the three Phillips screws securing the stick shift console using a Phillips screwdriver. Two of these screws should have been covered with the radio face cover.
Step 4
Remove the shifters upper dust cover by pulling it off and away from the assembly.
Use a 12 mm socket wrench to remove the five bolts securing the shifter bracket. Then remove the bracket. This exposes the full stick shift console.
Tip
- By pressing down and carefully removing Phillips screws, you can prevent the heads from being stripped out.
