Among the most popular Jeep brand vehicles of the 1990s, the Grand Cherokee enjoyed a long run, featuring the manufacturers top technologies and innovations. Among these technologies introduced in the 1990s was the keyless entry remote system. These systems allow drivers to remotely control their vehicle from as far as a couple hundred feet. The driver can start the car, lock and unlock the doors and pop the trunk, all of this done with a remote that can be set, reset and reprogrammed in just minutes at home, with no prior experience.

Step 1

Climb into your Jeep Grand Cherokee with your keyless remote(s) in hand and your manual ignition key. Do not close the drivers door.

Step 2

Hit the "Lock" switch on your drivers side door and insert the key into the ignition.

Step 3

Turn the key to the "Run" position and aim the keyless remote at the steering wheel. Press and hold the "Lock" button for five seconds.

Step 4

Wait for the locks to respond by cycling then program each successive remote (up to four total) by holding the lock until the locks respond. Each remote must be programmed within 20 seconds of the last.

Step 5

Turn the key in the ignition back to the "Off" position then quickly back to the "Run" position within 20 seconds of programming your last remote.

Turn the car off and remove the key from the ignition to complete the programming sequence.
