If you are a smoker and prefer to smoke inside of your car you may have at one point accidentally dropped a lit cigarette onto the cars upholstery, burning a hole into it. These burns are unsightly and may actually grow in size as time goes on. If you are looking to sell the car, or just want a cleaner looking vehicle, you can repair the burn in the automobiles upholstery.
Step 1
Look under your car seat for excess vinyl that is tucked away. This is helpful because it is guaranteed to match your cars upholstery. However, you can purchase replacement vinyl at auto part stores or arts and craft stores, such as Joanne Fabric or Hobby Hub.
Step 2
Cut off a piece large enough to cover the cigarette burn.
Step 3
Measure the distance between the vertical stitch lines on your upholstery. Cut out a portion of the replacement vinyl to match the same length. You do not want it to run over seams (unless this is where the burn mark is). Avoiding seams keeps the patch from being easily spotted.
Step 4
Apply vinyl adhesive, which can be purchased at most automobile or home improvement stores, to the entire underside of the trimmed vinyl and apply the patch to the cigarette burn. Press and hold the patch firmly in place for several moments.
Rub away any excess vinyl adhesive that may have dripped out of the patch. Do this before the adhesive can dry. Allow a few hours to dry before anyone sits on the patch.
