Contenu

The Chevrolet Malibu is a midsize vehicle that began production in 1964 and has been produced on and off since then. The fifth generation, which debuted in 1997, was the first to include an air bag. In those models, an airbag (or SRS, for Supplemental Restraint System) light will illuminate on your instrument panel to alert you to any problems with the airbag system. If your air bag light isnt working, reset it right from home using an OBD code reader.

Step 1

Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On/Off" position.

Step 2

Plug the OBD code reader into the diagnostic port. This port can be found on the underside of the drivers side dashboard near the steering column.

Step 3

Turn the OBD code reader on and scroll through the menu using the arrow keys. Locate the command that says "Codes" and select this. Wait for the computer to interface with the code reader. Next, select "Clear Codes" or similar command. Wait for it to complete the command. You will know it has finished when you return to the main menu or if you see the word "OK."

Unplug the code reader and start the engine. Check the instrument panel to make sure the SRS light has turned off.
