Having to replace a headlight in your Dodge Caliber is most likely going to leave you asking questions about what the designer of the car was thinking. Certainly the thought of having to bring the vehicle to the dealer to have a headlight replaced must have been on the table. You dont have to bring it to the dealer, but you are going to need some tools and some ingenuity in order to accomplish the task successfully at home.
Step 1
Park the Dodge Caliber on a flat paved or concrete surface. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the side opposite the headlight you are replacing. In other words, if you are replacing the left headlight, turn the wheel all the way to the right. Apply the parking brake and release the hood latch.
Step 2
Open the hood to allow some light down into the engine compartment. Raise the front end of the vehicle into the air with a floor jack. Place jack stands under the front frame rails, then lower the front end onto the jack stands.
Step 3
Remove the push pin retainers for the front splash shield, using a flat-head screwdriver. You do not have to remove the entire fender well or splash shield, but the more retainers you remove, the more access it will give you to the headlight assembly.
Step 4
Disconnect the wiring harness from the headlight bulb. The headlight is inner most bulb. Turn the bulb counterclockwise, the remove it from the headlamp assembly.
Step 5
Insert a new bulb into the headlamp assembly, then turn it clockwise to lock it into place. Do not touch the glass of the bulb.
Connect the wiring harness to the new bulb. Install the push pin retainers to secure the front splash shield and the fender well. Lower the front end to the ground.
