The fuel gauge on your Jeep is powered by the fuel sensor relay. If the fuel gauge in your Jeep stops working, the relay has gone bad and needs to be replaced. The fuel sensor relay is responsible for powering the sensors that, in turn, relay information to your fuel gauge. The fuel sensor relay is located inside the main relay panel on your Jeep. However, the exact location of the relay inside the relay panel may vary depending on the year and model of your Jeep.

Step 1

Lift your Jeeps hood and remove the negative battery cable.

Step 2

If your model Jeep has them, unclasp the two clamps that hold the relay panel lid on. Do this by hand. The main relay panel is located near the battery. Pull the relay panel lid off.

Step 3

Pull out the old fuel sensor relay. If you are unsure of its location, consult the relay diagram on the inside of the relay panels lid. Plug the new sensor in and replace the relay panel lid.

Replace your Jeeps negative battery cable.
