The side view mirrors on vehicles often are electrically powered. If the housing for the side view mirror is cracked or broken, it will need to be replaced. You can easily fix this yourself if you do not want to pay for the repair at a dealer. However, you will need to obtain a replacement side mirror for your model of vehicle.

Step 1

Open the door for the side of the vehicle where the side view mirror is located. This can be the drivers side or the passenger side mirror.

Step 2

Pry away the trim panel that is in the upper left or right corner of the door. Pry off the trim panel by using the flat-head screwdriver. Pull off the trim panel and set it aside.

Step 3

Locate the screws that are used to secure the mirror to the door. Remove the screws with the Phillips screwdriver. Take the side view mirror off of the door and set it aside.

Step 4

Disconnect the electrical connector from the mirror and then plug it into the new mirror.

Step 5

Set the new side view mirror in place and tighten the screws with the Phillips screwdriver.

Start the vehicle to verify that the mirror is working correctly. Set the trim panel back on the door. Press on the trim panel until you hear it snap into place.

Tip

  • A door panel removal tool can be purchased if you do not want to use a flat-head screwdriver.
