Contenu

If you have had your car for more than a year, then you have probably encountered at least one mysterious stain. Dark colored car seats---whether leather or cloth---tend to develop unpleasant-looking stains in uncomfortable places, usually in the area where you sit. These stains are often due to sweat or heat, and can be removed fairly easily, in most cases.

Step 1

Make a paste with baking soda and water. You can do this in the palm of your hand. Simply pile 1 or 2 tbsp. of baking soda into your hand. Add a few drops of water at a time until you have made a paste. It should be damp enough to stick together, but not runny.

Step 2

Apply the paste to the stain. Do this when you can let the car sit for a few hours.

Step 3

Let the paste sit on the stain for two hours. The car should remain warm and dry---but not hot---during this time. Leaving the car in the garage should be fine.

Wipe the paste off with a cleaning rag. The stain should come with it. Once you have removed the paste, use a clean, damp rag to blot up any remaining baking soda. Your dark car seat should now be stain-free.

Tip

  • Mold stains, which can be light or dark, can be removed using vinegar, but be sure to test it on your upholstery before you use it.
