One of the most popular minivans in the United States, the Dodge Caravan was introduced in 1983 and has sold over 12 million models worldwide as of 2010. The Caravan is among the forerunners in minivan technology and features a number of Dodges top technological developments. One of the features on the Caravan is the auto ignition key, which allows owners to start the car remotely from up to a couple hundred feet away. This key also allows users to pop the trunk and control the locks, and can be programmed easily at home if a remote needs to be replaced.

Step 1

Climb into the drivers seat of your Dodge Caravan and close the door. Have your car key and auto ignition key in hand and be sure that all of the doors and trunk are closed.

Step 2

Insert your car key into the ignition and turn it to "Run," which is one click short of starting the car.

Step 3

Press and hold the Unlock button on the auto ignition key and press the Panic button on your remote. Release both at the same time after holding for five seconds. Wait for a chime to indicate the programming sequence has begun.

Step 4

Press and release the Lock and Unlock buttons on your remote simultaneously. Press one of the buttons by themselves after release and wait for another chime to sound.

Step 5

Repeat Step 4 with any additional ignition keys that need to be programmed.

Turn the car key in the ignition to the "Off" position to end the programming sequence.

Warning

• Program all auto ignition keys for the van or the others will not be usable after the first key is programmed.
