The Polaris Sportsman 800 EFI features hundreds of different features and systems that could cause problems during operation. Polaris outlines a few of the most common in the troubleshooting section of the Sportsman owners manual.

Fuel

Lack of fuel or the use of contaminated gasoline can also cause problems with the Sportsman 800. Ensure that the gas tank is full and always use only fresh gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher.

Battery

If the Sportsman will not start correctly, there may be something wrong with the electrical system or battery. Polaris recommends troubleshooting, charging and possibly replacing the battery in these instances. The Sportsman 800 EFI takes a 12.8-volt battery. Details on how to remove, clean and recharge the battery can be found in the Sportsman 800 EFI owners manual.

Spark Plugs

Problems with the spark plugs can cause many problems, including ignition failure, engine stalling and engine misfiring. Owners should inspect the spark plugs in these instances, replacing any damaged plugs and setting the spark plug to the correct width. The Sportsman 800 EFI takes RC7YC spark plugs with a gap of 0.035 inch.

Coolant

Low coolant levels can cause the Sportsman to overheat to dangerous levels. Owners should check and refill coolant levels in the coolant recovery tank and in the radiator reservoir. The Sportsman 800 EFI takes a solution of 60 percent antifreeze and 40 percent distilled water as its coolant.
