Whether its a drive to the country or down the interstate, you will run into swarms of unwelcome bi-annual visitors, known as love bugs. Protect your vehicles paint by washing and waxing and polishing often during spring and fall, when the love bugs are around. Their acidic residue could damage the paint, so remove them right away. Prepare for the season of the love bug by planning to visit the car wash often.
Step 1
Driving at night or early in the morning is the best way to prevent these annoying love bugs from sticking to your car. Twice a year, in the spring and the fall, clouds of these little black bugs make their appearance, with a splatter. Their acidic fatty tissue left behind may damage the paint on your vehicle.
Step 2
Prepare to unavoidably run into swarms of these critters when driving on the highway. This can be a hazard and obscure your vision. Smearing the bugs with the windshield wipers may do more harm than good.
Step 3
Protect the paint finish on your car by washing and waxing frequently with a high quality car polish. A polish with a polymer finish will protect and allow for easy removal of the bugs. Use a product that will protect the windshield as well.
Step 4
Place a bug shield especially made for your vehicle or protect the front of the car with a temporary "bra" designed to fit.
Blow out the radiator frequently to prevent it from being clogged. This can cause the engine to overheat.

- Test products made for removing bugs, in a hidden area, to avoid staining the paint.
