Contenu

Prior to the 1982 release of the S-10, Chevrolet offered an Isuzu-built compact pickup called the LUV, which stood for "light utility vehicle." The release of the S-10 brought compact truck manufacturing to the United States. The 1999 S-10 had two engine sizes available: a 2.2-liter four-cylinder and a 4.3-liter V-6. The 2.2-liter engine requires 56 psi of oil pressure at 3,000 rpm and the 4.3-liter requires 18 psi at 2,000 rpm. The oil pressure switch is an integral part in monitoring the oil systems pressure.

Oil Pressure Switch Function

The 1999 S-10s oil pressure switch measures the amount of oil pressure in the engine. The switch then relays the information to the S-10s oil pressure gauge on the instrument panel. If this switch fails, the gauge may read incorrectly, or not at all.

Oil Pressure Switch Location

1999 S-10s oil pressure switch screws into the passengers side of the engine block on the 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine; it is just below the intake manifold and behind the alternator. Chevrolet positioned the oil pressure switch on the 4.3-liter V-6 on the rear of the engine, just below the drivers side of the engines distributor.
