The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 protects the trailer light circuits with four separate mini-fuses in the engine compartment fuse box. Chevy provides you with a fuse puller tool inside the driver-side instrument fuse block. Open the driver-side door and pull the cover off the fuse block to access the puller. To change the fuses, open the hood and locate the fuse box in the driver side of the engine compartment. Remove the cover from the fuse box and set it aside. The fuses that control the trailer lights are in slot Nos. 14, 15, 16 and 17. Pull each fuse out, using the puller, and inspect the metal strip within the plastic casing. If it is burnt or broken, install a new fuse with an identical amperage rating. Do not install a fuse with a higher rating or you risk starting an electrical fire. To finish up, store the puller tool and install the fuse box covers.
Identify Fuses and Check Connectors
The fuses protect the individual circuits. Slot No.14 protects the left-side stop and turn signal circuit, No. 15 is for the parking lamps, No. 16 is for the back-up light and No. 17 is for the right-side stop and turn signal. If you find that the fuse blows repeatedly, then you have a problem that you must fix. Check your trailer-wiring connector where it plugs into the truck, and all other exposed wiring on the trailer itself. Look for pinched or crushed wires, insulation damage or scorching, and make repairs as necessary. Check all connections, especially any ground wires on the trailer, for cleanliness and tightness.
