Contenu

Chevrolet introduced the Uplander as a crossover sport van in 2005 and continued its production through 2008. The spare tire on the 2007 model was stowed underneath the car and came equipped with a hoist and cable to lower it to the ground. The tools you need to remove the spare came with the car and are stowed in the rear cargo area, together with the jack. Some Uplanders also had a secondary latch system in case the hoist and cable system became disabled.

Hoist and Cable

Step 1

Open the rear liftgate, and locate the jack storage compartment on the passengers side of the cargo area. Move any cargo out of the way. Lift the tab on the compartment cover and pull to open the storage area.

Step 2

Locate the wing nut and bracket that hold the jack and tools in place. Loosen the nut and remove the bracket to gain access to the tool pouch. Remove the folding wrench and the extension for it from the pouch, and attach the extension to the wrench.

Step 3

Find the hole in the rear bumper that allows the extension to reach the tire hoist shaft. Feed the extension through this hole, at an angle, until it connects to the shaft.

Step 4

Turn the wrench counterclockwise to lower the spare tire. Continue turning until the tire is all the way down. Pull the tire out from under the rear of the Uplander.

Tilt the retainer at the end of the hoist cable and remove it from the tire. Remove the cable from the tire.

Secondary Latch System

Step 1

Look underneath the car to assess the spare tires situation if the hoist and cable system fails. If the tire is hanging loosely, use the secondary latch to remove the spare.

Step 2

Place the jack under the vehicle. Align the jacks center lift point with the center of the tire. Turn the wrench clockwise to lift the jack. Continue raising the jack until it lifts the secondary latch devise and the tire cannot go any higher.

Turn the wrench counterclockwise to lower the tire until it rests on the wrench extension. Pull the tire out from under the van.
