"Dinghy" vehicles are cars that are towed behind a recreational vehicle and then used to get around once youve parked your motorhome. Several Honda models are suitable for flat towing behind another vehicle ("flat towing" means that all four wheels are on the ground instead of using a tow dolly), as stated by the Honda website as well as Remco (a company that specializes in the manufacture of equipment for towing vehicles), MotorHome magazine and Family Motor Coach magazine. According to the Honda website, Honda vehicles that are being towed require "running the engine for 3 minutes at the beginning of the trip and at least every 8 hours thereafter," for automatic transmissions especially, to recirculate the transmission fluid. All details can be found in the specific vehicles owners manual under "Recreational Towing."
CR-V
The Honda CR-V has been a very popular dinghy vehicle for years. MotorHome magazines Dinghy Roundup and Family Motor Coachs towing guide have listed it for the last five years. Remco says it is suitable for towing in all model years from 1996 to 2011.
Fit
MotorHome magazine references the Honda Fit in their 2009 towing guide and claims, "the Fit is destined to become a favorite of motorhome enthusiasts."
Element
The Honda Element shows up in the MotorHome magazine Dinghy Roundup and the Family Motor Coach towing guide in 2005, but not in any subsequent issues. Remco shows that all model years from 2003 to 2011 are suitable for towing.
Pilot
The Honda Pilot is listed as towable with no known problems for model years 2003 to 2011 by Remco. The MotorHome magazine 2005 towing guide lists the 2004 Pilot in its model year list.
