The door hinges on your Chevy Silverado truck are welded in place on the truck body and cannot be easily removed. These hinges might come loose over time at the fasteners and cause the door to sag, which can damage the truck body. The only repair you should try without professional help is adjusting the hinges by the bolts fastening the hinges to the door.

Step 1

Open the Silverados door and prop it up using jack stands; place towels on the stands to protect the paint. It will also help to have a second person hold the door.

Step 2

Loosen the fasteners for the hinges with a wrench without completely removing the bolts.

Step 3

Lift and push the door toward the body frame. You will need the assistant to hold the door in place.

Step 4

Tighten the hinge fasteners as your assistant hods the door against the body.

Close the door and check its position in relation to the rest of the body. The top of the door should run even and parallel to the top end of the truck bed behind it.

Tip

  • Lubricate the hinges with a few drops of light oil at the same time you change the engine oil. You should also do this for the latch assemblies, hood and trunk and apply a thin coat of grease to the door striker at this same time.
