Step 1
Your first avenue would be to go to the DMV and request the License plate information. However, you must give them a reason that you are requesting the information and according to the standards of the DPAA it will have to be legitimate. So you struck out at the DMV, or dont want the hassle of going down there, and a private investigator is way out of your price range? Dont worry you still have some options left. They charge $8.00 per search, but results take 3 weeks. govdmvrecords.com are another search site, it costs $29.95 for 5 years of access to their database. Another site is 999licenseplatesearch.com like the web address says, it charges $9.99 for each search and results are returned within 24 hours. This site also allows searches by VIN Number.
So if you dont have a friends that are police officers, and you have a personal rather than professional or criminal reason for your research your best bet is the internet.

- There is no such thing as a free license plate search. They will steal your information or direct you to a site that does charge. Doing this kind of research always costs money, no matter who does it for you.
