Chrysler transmissions are very sensitive especially after a fluid flush. Make sure you use the correct transmission oil to revent any major issues with your car. Chrysler recommends using ATF+4, NEVER use any other oil and dont listen to any recommendations to do so. The shifting problems many experience after a fluid flush is usually a hard down shift from 3rd to 2nd gear, it sounds like a clunk while youre decelerating, the clunk jerks the car and is quite annoying. To save money and do it yourself you can manually retrain the transmission. The next option is to take it to the dealer and pay them to do it. Its your choice.
Step 1
Disconnect the battery to clear the computer memory, leave the battery disconnected for 10 minutes and reconnect.
Step 2
From a standing position accelerate the car to 45-55 mph so the transmission shifts through all 4 gears. Do this 10-15 times.
Step 3
While driving 30 mph do 5-10 wide throttle kick downs. In other words floor the gas pedal so the transmission downshifts, after you hear the revving let go of the gas pedal (remember do this at least 5 times).
While driving 45-55 mph do 5-10 wide throttle kick downs as you did in step 3.
Tip
- This should be enough to retrain the TCM (transmission control module) to correctly downshift your transmission. I hope this tip saves you money, time, and allows you to avoid a huge dealer bill. Many transmission issues are minor and can be easily fixed. Thank you for reading and good luck!
