The Ford F-150, a full-size pickup truck available in rear-wheel and four-wheel drive, was introduced in 1975. Although driver side airbags became standard in 1994, the current F-150 also includes a passenger side unit. Knowing your airbag sensors location will help you troubleshoot potential deployment problems.
Front Sensor Location
The F-150s airbag sensors are located under the driver and passenger seats and inside the safety belts. The location helps the airbag unit determine when someone is occupying the seat and when the belts are fastened.
Side Sensor Location
In addition to frontal airbags, Super Crew and Super Cab F-150 models are equipped with side airbags. The side airbag sensors are located in the driver side and passenger side doors.
Warnings
A dealer should be notified if your airbag indicator light is deactivated when an adult occupies the passenger seat, because the unit will not deploy upon impact. You should also contact your dealer if the lamp is activated when a child safety seat occupies the seat, because it should be deactivated for safety purposes.
Recall
In February 2011, a recall was issued on more than 144,000 2005 to 2006 F-150 vehicles due to the potential risk of airbag deployment failure due to a short circuit.
