Some states require license plates on both the front and the back of a vehicle. Not all vehicles are equipped with a front license plate bracket. Brackets are made with the contours of a bumper in mind. When the bracket is installed properly, spacers are first attached to the bumper and then the bracket is attached to the spacers.

Step 1

Measure the front bumper from side to side using a tape measure to find the center.

Step 2

Measure the front bumper from the top of the bumper to its bottom.

Step 3

Place the license plate bracket on the center mark so that its four corners are centered from side to side and from top to bottom on the bumper.

Step 4

Hold the bracket in place.

Step 5

Push a pen through each of the four corner holes of the bracket and place guide marks on the bumper.

Step 6

Remove the bracket.

Step 7

Pre-drill 1/8-inch deep guide holes at each of the four corner marks using an electric drill with an 1/8-inch bit.

Step 8

Place the bracket back on the bumper so that it lines up with the four holes.

Step 9

Insert the four mounting screws that came with the bracket into the four holes.

Step 10

Screw the screws down until the bracket is secured to the bumper.

Step 11

Insert the license plate into the bracket.

Step 12

Insert the four corner screws through the four holes in the plate that hold the plate to the bracket.

Screw these screws tight with a screwdriver.
