Contenu

The Honda CR250 was a motocross motorcycle that was first released to the public in 1973. It was discontinued in 2007. This model was in production for almost 37 years. For 1999, the CR250 was branded as the Honda CR250R. Major changes were made for the 1999 model, including a reinvented engine and new suspensions.

1999 Model Changes

The 1999 CR250R had several changes on its frame and engine. The engine was equipped with a new 38 mm flat-side carburetor, together with a reshaped jet circuit and a dual-taper needle. It was also made with a six-petal reed block, which wasn’t available on the previous CR250 models. The engine cylinders’ main port was also lowered to 0.2 mm, to enable more power on the low-end and midrange rpm output. A new pipe was also installed together with a new combustion chamber, and a 16-bit central processing unit was added in the ignition system for better timing and performance.

Powertrain

The 1999 CR250R was equipped with a 249 cc liquid cooled, two-stroke single-cylinder engine. It had a bore and stroke of 2.61 by 2.93 inches and a compression ratio of 8.7:1. It also came standard with a five-speed gearbox with chain drive transmission. Its ignition system was a solid-state map-type digital ignition with electronic advance. The engine’s overall rated output is 45.5 horsepower, and its fuel tank capacity was 7.6 liters.

Chassis and Frame

The 1999 CR250R’s frame and chassis were also modified. The suspension on both wheels was changed, adding modified springs and damping rates. The front suspension was a 47 mm inverted Showa fork. The rear suspension was a Pro-Link Showa single shock with spring preload, complementing the front suspension’s ability to reduce friction while moving. The front suspension was also made shorter than previous versions, allowing a lower seat height and better steering. The front brake was a single disc with dual piston calipers, while the rear brake was a single disc with one piston caliper.
