Contenu

The Dodge Ram 50 was the successor of the Ram D50, although the name change in 1981 did not reflect much change in the specifications of the truck. The 1986 Ram 50 had an optional 2.3-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine and a slightly different cosmetic look, but remained relatively similar to its recent predecessors.

Engine and Transmission

The 86 Ram 50s base engine was a 2.0-liter four cylinder; the Sport model ran on a 2.6 liter engine. An optional 2.3-liter turbo diesel four cylinder was also available. A manual transmission came as standard equipment in both the base model and Sport model, but both had optional automatic transmissions. The base model was a four speed, while the Ram 50 Sport was a five speed.

Exterior

The base model Ram 50 weighed 2,518 lbs.; the Sport weighed 2,563 lbs. Both the base model and Sport model carried a 81.5-inch long, 64.2-inch wide box and the maximum payload was a little over 1,500 lbs. The overall length was 184.6 inches and the width was 65 inches.

Interior

Inside the Ram 50, passengers had 41.1 inches of legroom, 38.2 inches of headroom, 52.8 inches of shoulder room and 4.6 cubic feet of storage behind the seat (the Sports Cab model that added 11 inches of space behind the seats was not introduced until 1988).
