Contenu

Full-sized Dodge pickup trucks were produced for most of the 20th century, but the "Ram" moniker emerged only recently. In 1981, Dodges D-Series trucks were redesigned and renamed "Ram" trucks. First-generation Ram trucks were in production from 1981 to 1993. During that time, the Ram evolved in many important ways, though 1982 Rams do not differ significantly from the 1981 or 1983 models.

Powertrains

Three engine options were offered in 1982: a 3.7-liter slant six, 95 horsepower; a 5.2-liter V8, 140 horsepower; and a 5.9-liter V8, 170 horsepower. Each engine could be mated to either a four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission. The trucks had one of three model numbers to designate payload capacities: 150, half ton; 250, three-quarter ton; and 350, one ton. Rams in 1982 were available in either two-wheel drive -- designated by a "D" before the model number -- or four-wheel drive -- designated by a "W" before the model number -- also known as "Power Rams". New for 1982 was the Ram D150 Miser. The Misers combination of a slant-six engine, four-speed manual transmission and two-wheel drive was intended to deliver greater fuel economy.

Cab and Bed Configurations

Cab options in 1982 were standard, club, extended and crew four-door. Beds in lengths of 6.5 and eight feet were offered in two styles: modern, flat-sided "Sweptline"; and traditional, narrow-box "Utiline."

Trim Levels

Buyers could choose one of four trim levels: Custom, with few amenities; Custom SE, with cloth upholstery carpeting and chrome accents, royal wood-grain interior accents, dome light for the bed and additional body trim; and Royal SE, oil pressure and engine temperature gauges, leather-wrapped steering wheel along with further body trim additions.

Special Editions

The Ram "Prospector" received extensive interior and exterior materials upgrades and individual color choices. The "Sno Commander" option was a plowing package for four-wheel drive models.
