In 1985 the Chevy Truck had not significantly changed since 1973. The body styling ran from 1973 to 1987 and was the second longest unchanged styling (second only to Dodge, which did not change the style of the Dodge from 1969 to 1991). During this time some things were changed, including the grilles, trim packages and engines.
Body
During 1985 Chevy had 1/2-ton, 3/4-ton and 1-ton trucks available. These trucks had either two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive or forward drive available. The 1985 body styling had a boxy look with roomy, spacious cabs. The body style was called the "Rounded Line" and had not significantly changed since 1973. The trucks had a sloped side strip and curved side windows that made them rounder than previous models, hence the "rounded" designation. In this year Chevy offered 6- and 8-foot beds. The pickup trucks had a wheelbase of 117.5 inches for the 6-foot bed and 131.5 inches for the 8-foot bed. The Chevy 6-foot bed trucks had an overall length of 191.3 inches, and the 8-foot beds had a length of 212 inches. The trucks had a width of 65.8 inches.
Features
The trim packages during 1985 had changed. The Cheyenne trim package went away. The basic, Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale and Silverado trim packages remained. Some options included power brakes, power steering, power door locks, power windows, fully chromed bumpers, cigarette lighters, map lights, special moldings and a custom steering wheel. During this era more plastics and vinyl were used on the seat covers, carpeting and paneling.
Engines
In 1985 the Chevy pickups had six engine power plants to choose from. Chevy had new a 4.3-liter 262-cubic-inch V-6 engine with 155 horsepower with 230 foot-pounds of Torque. Chevy had one other six-cylinder available, the 292 ci inline six with 120 hp and 215 foot-pounds of torque. Chevy offered two optional small block V-8s: a 305 ci 160 hp with 235 foot-pounds of torque, and a 350 ci with 175 hp with 275 foot-pounds of torque. For added power Chevy also had the big block 454 ci with 230 hp and 360 foot-pounds of torque and the 6.2-liter 379 ci V-8 diesel with 135 hp and 240 foot-pounds of torque.
