Chevrolet introduced the C/K 3500 pickup in 1988, replacing it with the Silverado 3500 in 2001. The automaker developed the C/K line as a heavy-duty vehicle with an emphasis on towing and hauling. Buyers could choose a diesel or gasoline engine and two-or-four-wheel drive.
Engine Specifications
The 1988 C/K offered eight trim levels and two engine types, depending on the trim chosen. The first, available on the diesel trims, was a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 143 horsepower, 257 pound-feet of torque and a compression ratio of 21.3:1. A 5.7-liter V8 engine with 185 horsepower, 285 pound-feet of torque and a compression ratio of 8.6:1 was available for gasoline engines. Both engines utilized a three-speed automatic transmission.
Dimensions
Vehicle dimensions varied based on the trim level. The 1988 C/K stood between 75.5 and 76 inches tall, 212.9 to 236.9 inches long and had a wheel base between 131.5 and 155.5 inches. The vehicles weighed between 5,293 and 5,371 lbs. All trims were 76.4 inches wide and had four doors.
Passenger Space
All trims could seat at least three people. The extended cab trims offered optional seating up to six. Front passengers in all trims got 40 inches of headroom and 41.8 inches of legroom. Rear passengers got 37.5 inches of headroom and 32.1 inches of legroom.
Safety Features
Each trim on the 1988 C/K 3500 included anti-lock brakes to help prevent a crash. No other safety equipment such as airbags was included.
Pricing
Each trim had different price points. The regular cab four-wheel drive had a manufacturer-suggest price of $12,425, while the diesel version priced at $13,422. The extended cab two-wheel drive was $13,422, the diesel version cost $14,921. The regular cab four-wheel drive priced at $14,444 with a diesel price of $15,650. The extended cab four-wheel drive was $15,453 with a diesel price of $16,659.
