Car manufacturers design remote keyless-entry systems, also called key fobs, to allow the car owner to access the car with the push of a button. Originally associated with higher-end vehicles, these fobs have become available for most vehicles on the market as of 2010.
Check Your Batteries
It seems simple enough, but before attempting to reprogram your key fob, check the batteries. The website KeylessRide recommends changing batteries every two years. Before purchasing batteries, confirm the type and size your key fob takes.
Poor Reception
The key fob transmits signal to the vehicle; in some cases, the fob might not work because of poor reception. If you pull into your garage, try backing into the garage instead. Many cars have the receptor in the front of the car.
Reprogram the Fob
Each manufacturer differs slightly in the programming instructions for fobs; follow the instructions in your owners manual. If you do not have your manual, see a dealer.
