The Honda Civic may have a reputation as an indestructible vehicle, but it, too, is prone to failure. A common problem with seventh and eight generation Honda Civics is a faulty gas tank door. If your gas tank door wont open, and you need a quick fix to open it, read on to learn how.
Step 1
Pull up the fuel door lever on the left side of your drivers side floorboard. Examine the connection between the cable and the lever.
Step 2
Use a pair of needle-nose pliers to pull the cable and open the door, if it has broken away from the lever. If it isnt broken, but still wont open, continue with the following steps.
Step 3
Open your trunk and remove the two clips attaching the trunk liner to the drivers side of the trunk.
Step 4
Pull back the trunk liner to expose the gas tank door locking valve. Reach your hand behind the cover, and then turn the valve counterclockwise to release it. Pull the valve straight out.
Open your gas tank door with your hands. With the locking valve removed, it will easily open.
Warning
- Dont leave the locking valve out for an extended time period. Without it in place, someone could easily open your gas tank door. Visit a repair shop to get the problem taken care of.
