Contenu

The Toyota 2.7-liter engine produces 159 horsepower and 180 foot-pounds of torque. Its the base engine of the Tacoma and the 4Runner. The cylinder head and engine block of the Toyota 2.7-liter engine are joined together by head bolts with a gasket sealing the joint. The head bolts must be tightened to the correct setting and in the correct sequence to support the gasket, which is made of a composite material much weaker than the metal of the head and block.

Step 1

Blow debris out of the bolt holes with compressed air.

Step 2

Look at the directions in the head bolt kit to see if there is any difference between the standard settings and procedures and those of the head bolt kit manufacturer. Proceed accordingly.

Step 3

Coat the threads of the bolts with motor oil.

Step 4

Finger tighten the bolts.

Step 5

Use the torque wrench to tighten the bolts to 29 foot-pounds, starting with the inner bolts and working outwards.

Step 6

Tighten the bolts in the same sequence another 90 degrees.

Do the same procedure again. Tighten the bolts another 90 degrees starting with the same bolts and working in the same sequence.
