Contenu

General Motors produced the 200-4R automatic transmission from 1980 to the early 1990s. The 200-R4 powered the 1983 Buick Regal Grand National, where it proved sturdy enough to handle performance ratings of 190 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque.

Gear Ratios

The 200-R4 has a first-gear ratio of 2.74:1, a second-gear ratio of 1.57:1 and a third-gear ratio of 1:1. It has a fourth-gear ratio of .67:1 and a reverse gear ratio of 2.07:1.

Dimensions

The 200-R4 has an overall length of 27 11/16 inches and a bell housing height of 19 1/8 inches. The distance from the center bearing cover retainer bolts to the rear of the transmission case measures 27 inches and the spacing between the retainer bolts equals 3 ¾ inches.

Other Information

When paired with General Motors engines that have full-size bell housings (with the exception of Chevrolet models), the 200-R4 provides a 30 to 40 percent increase in gas mileage over a three-year period. The 200-R4 uses a 12-volt feed to operate the torque converters solenoid.
