The Ram has long been the dark horse in the race to pickup truck supremacy, with Ford and Chevy sucking up most of the sales, but the Ram being capable enough to compete with both. Ram -- once known as the Dodge Ram, but now a standalone brand -- has been steadily getting better through the years, and its Heavy Duty 2500 picked up a 6.4-liter, V-8 engine to add to an arsenal that already included the 5.7-liter HEMI and the 6.7-liter turbodiesel for 2014. Even with this increased power, you need to be mindful of the 2500s gross vehicle weight rating.

The 2014 Ram 2500s gross vehicle weight rating is either 9,000, 9,900 or 10,000 pounds, depending on options. To find your trucks specific rating, read the "Certification Label" on the driver-side door pillar and find the "GVRW" value on it.
