The 6.2 L V-8 SFI engine, also known as the LS3 engine, was first introduced in the Chevrolet Corvette in the 2008 model and remains in production through the 2011 model. The engine is one of the most powerful and sophisticated ever developed by General Motors.
Performance
The LS3 engine produces 430 horsepower and 424 ft-lbs. of torque. It can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed paddle-shifting automatic transmission. It has a compression ratio of 10.3 and two valves per cylinder.
Fuel Economy
The LS3 achieves 15 city mpg and 25 highway mpg when mated to the automatic transmission in the 2008 Corvette. Slight improvement in fuel economy can be had by opting for the manual transmission, resulting in 16 city mpg and 26 highway mpg. The LS3 is designed for use with 91 octane unleaded fuel.
