If you want to sell a car design, you have a lot of options. With the advent of the Internet and popular TV shows like “Pimp My Ride,” custom, one-of-a-kind cars are in demand. As a result, the need for good car designs is, too. You have many venues to choose from in order to make a sale.
Step 1
Get a patent for your car design. A patent will protect you from someone stealing your design and claiming it as his own. You can do this by hiring a patent lawyer or doing it yourself (see Resources below).
Step 2
Determine the monetary worth of your car design. This amount must be based on the going market value for such an item. The best way to find out accurate information is to speak with an automotive consultant. You can find one online or call a local automotive shop for a lead (see Resources below).
Step 3
Put together a presentation. Even if you have an excellent car design, you are going to have to convince a buyer of it. So put together a schematic, including blues and a final color copy of the end results. Describe why people will want to buy the type of car you’ve designed and how it can be sold to them.
Step 4
Contact a potential buyer. You can contact Internet car designers like the ones at Car Design Online, go to a big car manufacturer like Ford or visit a local car shop known for entering car shows. All of these three venues offer you opportunities to sell your car design (see Resources below).
Step 5
Get a written contract of sale. Before you hand over your car design to a buyer, get a written contract of sale. It should list out the agreed amount of payment and terms. Also, before you sign it, take it to an attorney. An attorney will help you work out any legalese that you don’t understand on it.
Make the sale. Be sure to sign the contract in the presence of a third party and get a copy of it. You will want to keep it on record just in case there is a misunderstanding in the future. Also, it’ll be your proof that you were able to complete one of your dreams.

- Dress up for any face-to-face meeting you have with a potential buyer.
