Sometimes the windshield wipers on your automobile can become misaligned. There are many ways for this to happen including using your windshield wipers with heavy snow on the windshield. When the wipers are out of alignment, they may not be able to function at all, or might clash with one another, possibly causing damage to the wiper blades and arms. It is best to fix the blade positions and re-time the windshield wipers right away, in order to avoid having to replace a set of beaten up wipers.
Step 1
Drag the arms of your windshield wipers up and away from the windshield. The wiper arms should lock in an upright position at the end of their range of movement.
Step 2
Loosen and remove the nuts at the lower ends of the windshield wiper arms with your socket wrench. This nut is responsible for keeping the wiper arms attached to the wiper motor. Detach the wiper arms from the wiper motor.
Step 3
Place your vehicle key in the ignition and start your vehicle. Turn the wiper motor on as well. Allow the vehicles wiper motor to cycle once and then turn the wiper motor back off.
Step 4
Position the windshield wiper arms to the wiper motor so that the arms and blades are now pointed in the direction of the automobiles passenger side. Reattach the blades and arm using your socket wrench and the nuts you had previously removed.
Adjust the windshield wipers back into their normal down position against the the lower edge of the windshield.
Warning
- Be careful where you place the nuts while re-timing the windshield wipers. If you misplace them, youll have to buy more nuts of the same size to replace them.
