Contenu

Like all vehicles manufactured after 1996, your Jeep Liberty has an on-board diagnostic system (OBD-II). The OBD-II uses various sensors on your vehicle to ensure it is running properly. If a problem is detected, your "check engine" light will come on prompting you that service is needed. If you decide to do the repair work yourself, the "check engine" light will remain lit until the OBD-II codes are reset. The system will eventually reset itself and the light will go out or you can reset it manually.

Step 1

Locate the battery in the engine compartment. It is located on the drivers side directly behind the headlight.

Step 2

Loosen the bolt on the negative battery cable using the adjustable wrench and remove the cable from the negative post. Leave the cable unhooked from the battery for three to five minutes.

Step 3

Press the negative battery cable end onto the negative post.

Step 4

Tighten the bolt on the negative cable using the adjustable wrench until the cable end is tight and does not move on the post.

Start the engine to ensure that the "check engine" light is no longer illuminated.
