Contenu
Like most modern vehicles, the Dodge Ram features an engine management computer that handles various aspects of the vehicle, including throttle input, fuel management and transmission shifting. Many Ram owners install aftermarket chips that improve the Rams overall performance. Installing or removing these chips may require the Rams engine computer to be reset. After resetting the computer, there will be a learning period when the computer adjusts to new throttle inputs and shift points.
Step 1
Unlatch the hood by pulling the hood release handle near the drivers side foot well. Depress the handle underneath the Rams grille and open the hood.
Step 2
Disconnect the negative terminal cable from the battery with a combination wrench. Set the negative terminal cable aside and wait 20 minutes. This will drain the computers stored electricity and clear its memory.
Reconnect the negative terminal cable to the battery. Close the hood.
Tip
- This procedure will also clear the radios preset stations, so you will have to manually reset them after the computer is reset.
