If you have recently taken your car to be serviced and a mechanic disconnected the battery, chances are that the car stereo will lock itself as a means to prevent theft. Resetting the car stereo is a simple process and should only take a couple of minutes. However, failing to complete the resetting process correctly can lead to unnecessary headache, so follow these steps to avoid this problem.
Step 1
Ensure the stereo is actually locked by switching on the car and taking note of what the stereo displays. If the stereo display reads CODE, then it is indeed locked.
Step 2
Open the cars user manual to obtain the four-digit code needed to reset the stereo. The code may be ed on a detachable card.
Step 3
Follow the instructions as specified in the user manual to correctly input the four code. You will need to use the buttons on the front of the car stereo in a specific order to correctly enter the code.
If you are unable to reset the car stereo after three attempts, remove the fascia surrounding the stereo and unscrew the stereo from its mounting cage. Call the dealership where you bought the car and tell them that you are unable to reset your car stereo. Read the serial number that is ed on the stereo to a member of the dealerships staff who will then consult a database and guide you through the process of resetting your stereo. If this still doesnt work, you will unfortunately need to drive the car to the dealership for inspection.
