Contenu

The mirror on the Hyundai Sonata was designed to take a moderate amount of impact before breaking. Hyundai used highly durable ABS plastic for the mirror shell and a thick plastic plate for the mirror. Included in the mirror shell are small springs that allow for a moderate amount of flexing. This prevents the mirror from breaking if hit by a passing car while the Sonata is parked on the side of the road. If the impact is severe enough, the mirror or mirror cover could break. If it does, you have to replace it with a new one.

Step 1

Open the drivers side door of the Sonata as wide as you can. In the lower right hand corner of the window, on the end of the door that rests against the dashboard when the door is closed, you find a triangular shaped plastic cover. On the other side of that cover, on the outside of the door is the side view cover. Remove the triangular cover from the door by pulling on it with your finger. This exposes the wiring harness for the mirror and the mounting nuts.

Step 2

Disconnect the wire harness by pulling the two connectors apart.

Step 3

Remove the bolts that secure the mirror to the door with a 10mm wrench. Be careful not to drop the bolts into the door. Otherwise, you must dismantle the door to retrieve the bolts.

Step 4

Pull the old drivers side mirror off the door and place the new mirror against the door.

Step 5

Secure the mirror by threading the bolts into the mirror, then tightening them with the 10mm wrench.

Step 6

Reconnect the wire harness by pushing the two connectors together.

Place the plastic piece against the door and push it into place with your hand.
