Contenu

The Lincoln Town Car has several rear lights: the tail lights, the stop lights, the rear turn signal lights, the license plate lights, the backup lights, and the high-mount brake light. Replacing any of the lights is a simple, but important, procedure. The rear lights are a huge part of your vehicles safety. If any of the rear lights begin to malfunction, you could be at risk of having an accident. It is important to replace the rear lights anytime you notice that they are no longer functioning correctly.

Tail Lights, Stop Lights and Rear Turn Signal Lights

Step 1

Turn the Town Cars engine off, and open the trunk. Remove the trunk retainer if your Town Car is equipped with one. Put on the gloves.

Step 2

Pull the carpet away in order to access the tail lamp assembly. Remove the three nut-and-washer assemblies with a socket wrench.

Step 3

Remove the desired bulb socket by turning it counterclockwise, and then pulling it straight out of the assembly. Pull the old bulb out of the socket, and install a new bulb. All three lights use 3457AK-type bulbs.

Place the socket back into the assembly, and reinstall the three nut-and-washer assemblies. Place the carpet back into the vehicle, reattach the trunk retainer if necessary, and close the trunk.

License Plate Lights

Step 1

Turn the Town Cars engine off, and put on the gloves. Remove the two screws and grommets from the license plate lamp assembly with a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 2

Pull the bulb out of the socket, and install a new 168-type bulb. Secure the lamp assembly to the trunk lid.

Reinstall the two screws and grommets, and close the trunk.

Backup Lights

Step 1

Turn the Town Cars engine off, and open the trunk. Put on the gloves, and pull the trunk liner out to access the backup light assembly.

Step 2

Remove the socket from the assembly by rotating it counterclockwise.

Step 3

Pull the bulb out of the socket, and install a new 3156K-type bulb in its place. Place the socket back into the assembly.

Reattach the trunk liner, and close the trunk.

High-Mount Brake Light

Step 1

Turn the Town Cars engine off, and put on the gloves.

Step 2

Remove the high-mount brake light assembly from the headliner by pulling down on the assembly.

Step 3

Remove the electrical-connector, and remove the entire high-mount brake light assembly. The high-mount brake lights use LED lights. If they burn out, you have to replace the entire assembly.

Install the new high-mount brake light assembly to the headliner, and connect the electrical connector to the new assembly.
