Contenu

The serpentine belt on a Kia transmits the torque energy from the crankshaft out to the various engine accessories. As the crankshaft pulley turns, it moves the serpentine belt, which then spins the other pulleys. Over time, the belt begins to stretch, crack, fray and ultimately break. Inspecting your belt for signs of wear is a good idea at every oil change interval. If you see any excessive wear indicators, such as those listed above, replace the belt immediately. This job requires basic automotive repair skills.

Step 1

Drive the front wheels of the Kia onto the ramps. Set the parking brake. Place the wheel chocks directly behind the rear wheels.

Step 2

Climb under the front end with the serpentine belt tool. Move the serpentine belt tensioner pulley off the belt using the belt tool.

Step 3

Slide the belt off the tensioner pulley with your other hand and then relax the tensioner and remove the tool.

Step 4

Pull the belt off the pulleys and out from under the engine well by hand. Route the new belt around the pulleys, following the belt routing diagram located on the fan shroud, by hand.

Step 5

Move the tensioner pulley aside once more with the belt tool, slip the new belt over the tensioner pulley and move the tensioner back into position. Take the tensioner tool out and climb out from under the Kia.

Move the wheel chocks and drive the Kia off the ramps.
