The blower motor in your 1977 F150 warms air by pushing it through the heater core, then exhausts it into the cabin through the air vents. If your heater fan stops working, runs slower than normal, or creates an abnormal noise when in use, its time for a replacement. The blower motor is located behind the glove box and is easily accessible, making this a relatively quick task that can be done with basic tools.
Step 1
Open the glove compartment and remove any items stored inside. Apply firm pressure to the sides of the compartment to disconnect the pins from their tracks in the dash. Open the compartment beyond its normal stopping point to access the blower motor.
Step 2
Unplug the electrical connector from the blower motor. Press in on the plastic tab at the top of the connector and pull it out. Use a screwdriver to take out the screws holding the blower motor to the inside of the dash. Pull the motor out of the blower assembly.
Install the replacement blower. Insert it into the housing and replace the retaining screws. Tighten them securely with a screwdriver. Clip the electrical connector onto the new motor. Turn the heater on to make sure the blower motor functions as desired. Apply pressure to the sides of the glove compartment while closing it to snap the pins back into their tracks.
