Over time, the brake rotors on your Toyota Corolla may wear out or become damaged from dirt getting between the rotor and the brake pads. When this happens, it is important to remove the worn brake rotors as soon as possible to prevent damage to the brakes or the wheel hub. Removing the brake rotors on your Toyota Corolla is a job that you can do yourself in about an hour, saving you time and money in the process.

Step 1

Drive the Toyota Corolla onto a level surface. Put the vehicle in "Park" and set the parking brake. Place a wood block behind one of the rear tires.

Step 2

Loosen the lug nuts of the wheel that you are going to remove with a tire tool a couple of turns. Lift the vehicle up with a floor jack near the wheel that you are removing.

Step 3

Place a jack stand under the axle near the wheel you are removing. Lower the floor jack so the vehicle is supported on the jack stand. Move the floor jack out of the way.

Step 4

Remove the lug nuts from the wheel with the tire tool. Set the wheel and the lug nuts out of the way. Unfasten the bolts that are securing the brake caliper to the brake rotor with a socket wrench.

Step 5

Lift the brake caliper off the brake rotor and use a wire hanger to hang the caliper out of the way on the vehicle frame. Be careful not to let the caliper hang from the rubber brake hose.

Step 6

Slide the brake pads out of the brake caliper bracket. Remove the bracket from around the brake rotor by hand, setting the bracket and pads aside. Remove the Toyota Corolla brake rotor from the hub, rocking it back and forth by hand until you can slide the part off the spindle.

Repeat steps 2 through 6 for any remaining rotors that you need to remove.

Warning

  • Always set the parking brake of the Toyota Corolla before attempting to remove the brake rotors.
