In order to access the instrument cluster on a 1996 Honda Accord, you do not need to remove the entire dashboard. You only need to remove the upper dashboard panel above the instrument cluster, which is held in by two screws. Once that is removed, the instrument cluster can be accessed if you wish to replace the dash light bulbs or the instrument cluster itself.

Step 1

Park the Accord and remove the keys from the ignition.

Step 2

Remove the two screws from the underside of the upper dashboard panel, directly above the instrument cluster. You will need a small Phillips screwdriver to access these screws.

Step 3

Pull the dashboard panel off the vehicle. This will give you access to the instrument cluster.

Step 4

Move the steering wheel as low as it can go so that you will have more room in which to work.

Remove the three screws holding the instrument cluster to the Accord. Once those screws are removed, you can begin to pull the cluster toward you. Reach behind the cluster and remove its electrical connection, and you can now easily pull it out of the Accord.

Tip

  • If your hands are small enough, you do not even need to remove the dashboard to access the instrument cluster. You just need to lift it up enough to pull the cluster out.

Warning

  • Do not lose any of the dashboard or instrument cluster screws, as you will need them for the reassembly procedure.

Items you will need

  • Phillips screwdriver
