If you need to remove a Ford Econolines rear seats, youre in luck. Unlike other models, the Econoline is designed to be quickly transformed from a passenger van to a cargo van. The rear seats are bolted to the floor. Removing them does not require that you gain access to the vans underside at the same time. The bolts do not have securing nuts, but are held in place in cast-threaded sleeves inserted through the floor. One person can do the job.
Step 1
Open the doors to gain access to the rear seats of the Ford Econoline. Leave the doors open while working to prevent the area from becoming too hot and to make it easier to pull the seats out.
Step 2
Locate the seat brackets that hold the rear seats to the floor. There are four brackets, with two bolts each located at the front and back of each seat leg. The seat legs are the cast-metal seat supports; there is one on each side of the seat.
Step 3
Remove the bolts from the seat brackets with a socket and socket wrench. Choose a socket that fits the bolt head snugly and turn the bolt counterclockwise until is unscrews completely from the floor.
Lift the seat off the floor and remove it from the Econoline.
Tip
- Add a drop or two of lubricating oil to the bolts to loosen any rust or corrosion that may be making them difficult to remove.
Warning
- Never ride in a van with the seats loose in the rear. If they shift during movement they could injure your passengers or cause damage to the interior of the van.
